Nothing better than a good buttermilk biscuit. My sister's husband makes a pretty darn good batch. We have a breakfast place that will be opening this summer...All Hail The Biscuit...and I can hardly wait. So I thought I'd try my hand at it. I tried several recipes. Talked to some people. Watched some YouTube videos and finally made some that I can brag about.
It is definitely a learning process.. I learned that no matter how much I love my cast iron skillets they are probably better suited to bake on a baking sheet...or a round cast iron griddle (I am sure I can find one on Amazon)
The first batch I made was like hockey pucks. I was so disappointed. These were made with self-rising flour, buttermilk, and butter.
Little trick I learned from Grandma Johnson is to butter the tops and bottoms when they come out of the oven. And then Brenda Gantt also from Youtube makes hers in 3.5 minutes!
Nothing better than watching church on a Sunday morning with homemade buttermilk biscuits and homemade apple butter and coffee made by Mark.
I'll practice again next weekend.
