I love camping and Dutch oven cooking just about as much as I love hiking on the Appalachian Trail.  So Mark hooked me up for my birthday this year.  Everyday something new shows up on the front porch.  You jsut gotta love Amazon Prime!

I got two new Dutches a 10 inch and a 12 inch.  The next time the doorbell rang it was a new really nice lid lifter.

Then came the Dutch oven table with the taller wind screen awith a carrying case..

So of course I baked something today.

Spice cake and peaches...AKA Peach Cobbler  Yummmmm!
Tomorrow I think I am going to try to bake some Beer Bread.  My friend Jen is going to share her recipe.

I got this recipe from one of the Assistant Scoutmasters on one of the first campouts we every did with the Troop...Mammoth Caves.

Boy Scout Cobbler

1 apple spice cake mix
2 small or one large can of pie fruit (I jsut used two cans of peaches becasue that was in the pantry)
1/2 a can of Sprite

Line the Dutch oven with foil. Spray the bottom on the oven (foil) with Pam.  Throw everything  in the dutch and mix lightly.

8 coals on bottom
12 coals on top

Turn dutchover every 15 minutes.  Turn the lid to the right and the bottom to the left.  Cook for 60 minutes and then, only then lift the lid and check for doneness,

Linda Cumming's Famous Apple Crunch /Crisp
(double for a 9x13 baking dish)

diced apples
cinnamon
1/2 cup of water
3/4 cup of flour
1/2 cup of butter
1 cup of sugar

Fill the baking dish 3/4 full of diced apples (golden delicious are really great).  Sprinkle liberally with cinnamon and add water. (I add less water for juicy apples).

Work together flour, butter, and sugar until crumbly, and sprinkle over the apples (I have been known to double this mixture).  Bake for about 45 minutes at 350 degrees or until brown on the top.

Pecans may be added to topping if desired.  (no thanks)  Serve warm with ice cream if desired.

I eat it hot, warm, or cold.  Delicious all temps.

And FYI...if you have never seen this apple, read here...

The Famous Recipe

. .
As you can see we have had this recipe for a very, very long time.  It comes from a friend, Linda Cummings.  Linda was Emmy and Bryce's 4-year-old preschool teacher.  So I'm guessing that we have made this a million and one times at least.  And we have shared it with lots of friends.  It is soooo good!

A friend brought me some apples from WV last week so I had to make one.

I'm not to lie...I might have eaten a bowl after dinner and maybe two during the night.

Fun place.  Really has the islands feel to it.  Very friendly staff.  Good food.  I'd go back.  Tables were painted like surfboards.

This must have been good and we must have been really hungry.  It is funny.  Usually, I take shots of before we dig in.  Looks like these shots were taken after we licked the plates.
