Emmy was in charge of our eating establishments on our World's Largest Yard Sale Adventure.  She doesn't like to eat at chain restaurants...always an adventure with her that's for sure.  We looked and looked for a place to stop.  Good thing we have Betsy and all of her snacks with us or we would have starved.  She literally had everything known to man...we were going to live for weeks if we had been stranded along the way.  Betsy went in and got a menu so we could check it out!

This place was packed!  So it must be good!  I didn't quite make the cut or the Senior Menu.

We were all so hungry that I almost missed getting any shots of the food.

Nothing better than a good fried bologna sandwich with mustard on fresh white bread.

But I will have to say that Betsy's lunch looked the best and was the best!  That's what I am getting next year for sure.

After a hot day of being outside and fishing while eating a bunch of snacks, it was sure nice to come thru the door and smell dinner cooking...Thanks Emmy!

Emmy's Fourth of July Dinner

. .
Pappy has stared a new tradition.  It might just be a little copied after a tradition Emmy started with the little kids when we were in WV years ago.  In WV the idea is to get up and go to Jolly Pirate Donuts on Rt 60...in your pajamas!   The kids all sit at the counter and eat donuts and drink chocolate milk.  It is the greatest thing ever!

We recently discovered that we have the best little doughnut shop not far from the house in Day Heights...which is in Milford on Rt 131.  Thank you Mr John and Luke!

Mark's Donut Shop
1154 Rt 131
Milford, OH

That is Denise, our newest friend, behind the counter.

So many choices...it is so hard to decide!

"Hey Wammy, somebody put doughnut holes in my bag with my sprinkled doughnut."

And just so you know the proper way to eat a doughnut is to eat in around the edges going in a complete circle until you get to the hole in the middle.  Crazy I know!

"Why do you always have to have that camera?"

'Who cares about the camera...are there any more doughnuts?"

We were cruisers on the way home from Unity Woods Cabins in West Union, OH when Mark realized we were all starving.  He said he knew just the place.

Cruisers Diner
155 Stern Road
Seamon, OH
(You can see cars on Rt 32)

Alaire had to decide between a grilled cheese and a hamburger.  Grilled Cheese always gets the nod....with a half a bottle of ketchup.

Michael is between the kiddie menu and the adult menu.  He was starving so he got something off the adult menu.  And tht was better than alright with him!

Ellis was too busy telling his Mom and dad all about our fishing trip to Unity Cabins in West Union.

Had to try the deep fried pickles.  Yummmm is what I am talking about!

Buffalo chicken sandwich
This was actually a two thumbs up but an airplane got in the way of the shot of the second thumb..

Pile on burger

The said grilled cheese before it was drown in ketchup.

Just a regular old cheeseburger was just the right thing for Ellis.

I got a little too hot to eat so I jsut ordered a hamburger.  It was so big that I had to take half of it home.

Cruisers Diner is a fun spot.  It is decorated in all 50's stuff.  The food was good and the waitress that greeted us was really great with the kids.  They kept our drinks filled and didn't seem to mind that we were a little loud.

Eli's BBQ
3313 Riverside Drive (I call it Rt 52)
Cincinnati, OH 45226

I love this.  And one day when it is not 105 we plan to bring our blankets down and have a picnic right near this sign.

If you order and eat outside on the grass or picnic tables, this is where you pick up you food.  In the background you can see the smokers and let me just tell you that my mouth is watering just looking at the picture.

I love all the little touches that make it see like home...at least to me.  I love it all!  Even the ceiling lights.

Bottle caps in an old Mason jar and napkins in a loaf pan...perfect!  And see the bottle of sauce...it is homemade and beyond lip smackin' good!

Homegrown flowers from the side yard in a Mason jar and table numbers in Coke bottles...again perfect!

This is the menu...

...but this is the one that I like the most...the menu on the wall.  Oh and an extra added bonus...Porche works here during the week.  We make sure that we see her when we go.

You get to get your drinks from the old stand up Coke cooler...and they are in little glass bottles.

Choose your favorite old record...we listened to The Monkeys while we were there.  But be sure to put your album back in the cover and in the correct place in the alphabet or there is a price to pay...not really but the sign is a little scary!

The kids all had a table by the window which was a really good idea...lots to see and do and it was nice and cool.

In my opinion...best thing on the menu...pulled pork with cole slaw with a side of jalapeno cornbread.  But don't just take my word for it...go get one or two!

And Marli will tell you that the mac and cheese is the best thing they have...it's really good too!

Check out the video we found on YouTube.  Then jump in the car and take a trip down to Eli's for the best food you ever ate!  Seriously!

ONE IMPORTANT THING THAT YOU NEED TO KNOW....THEY ONLY TAKE CASH!

Eli's BBQ in Cincinnati

OMG!!!!!  This one is a story so sit back and relax.

We had been in the car driving for 2 1/2 hours to take a 2 hour hike thru Mammoth Cave and we were all hungry...starving!  Emmy, being the most adventurous one in the bunch, ask the very nice information desk receptionist where the best place in the area to eat was.  Without hesitation she said we had to go to Mama Lou's.  We got a map and verbal directions like...you can miss it pretty easy, doesn't look like much...but don't judge a book by it's cover...so off we went.  With the help of our trusty GPS,  we of course got lost. (Could have been part my fault also...just ask the kids in the car, I am sure they would agree.)

Mama Lou's
5112 South Jackson Highway
Uno, KY
There is a little big of question as to what city Mama Lou's is really in...everything from Horse Cave, KY to Munsfordville, KY, to Uno, KY.  But I am going with Uno, Ky (it was on the menu) because it is easier to remember.

Someone from the backseat spotted it first.  But Mark lead the way in!

We got out of the car and the aroma of pork cooking literally made you mouth water!  Doesn't look like much but I can tell you if we are ever within 100 miles of the place we will be stopping by!

Looks like lots of hours of cooking for this bad boy!

Get a good look so you don't miss it when you drive by.  I want to go back in the summer and sit on the porch/sidewalk and wave to the cars as they go by.  I love to see that when we are out driving the back roads.  I always wave! And if I am driving, it is always the two finger farmer wave and nod.

This is just part of the menu...below is the whole kittin' caboodle!  There should have been a wall of blue ribbons hanging there.  Even the water was delicious!  Maybe next time the Hubecap Burger will be calling our names.  I think Trevor is up for it!

And I just found out that you can by their homemade sauce from Urbanspoon!  What!  Now I know I am going back!

pulled pork sandwich with no one ounce of fat on it.

Ellis ordered a BLT with just the B.

pork shoulder, sliced to perfection

grilled cheese with a side of 'grilled' beans as Alaire calls them

puled pork, white beans, Cole slaw and Texas toast

brisket, slaw, fried potatoes and check out that cornbread!  It was like a pancake.  I a wondering if the would share the recipe.
potato salad, fried bologna sandwich and white beans
I don't know how you fix your white beans but from now on I am putting chunks of pork sausage in mine.  DELECIOUS!!!

pork shoulder with Cole slaw, potatoes and the best cornbread you ever ate in your entire life!
I wonder if they would share the recipe?  Going to write them as soon as I finish here.  I know they are on FB, I liked them!

banana pudding

The banana pudding was so good Cassie was not sharing not even a crumb or a drop of the whipped topping with anyone.  My Dad's favorite!

The kids all got ice cream with chocolate syrup!  And I think they all licked their bowls.

These are the sisters.  The one on the right was our awesome waitress.  She had us covered.  She recommended what was good and she was 100% accurate!
And check out those cute t-shirts...and yes I am now the proud owner of one.  Actually am wearing it as I am typing.  Thanks Mark and Cassie!
Mama Lou even came out to talk to us for a bit.

One important thing to remember...they don't accept credit cards...cash and checks only please.
Bet you can't beat our three ticket dinner!  Be sure to check Urbanspoon before you go for the hours.  I know they are going to be closed for vacation soon.  And I think they might be closed on Sundays.

Best little diamond in the rough we have tried in a long time....5+ stars from me!
